Office Hours

CELS Office Hours are professional learning sessions designed to support state and local education leaders, practitioners, and parents and families in strengthening and implementing developmentally informed, evidence-based early learning strategies across the PK–3 continuum. 

In 2026, Office Hours will feature the rollout of the CELS State of the Field Practice Briefs, which translate research into clear, actionable guidance to support implementation in classrooms, schools, and communities

Each session is led by CELS content leads and relevant subject-matter experts, and provides a structured space for participants to:

• Learn about the evidence-based practices highlighted in the Practice Briefs

• Engage in guided dialogue and reflection with peers and subject-matter experts 

• Identify concrete action steps to support implementation into their daily work.

Pedagogy of Early Learning Practice Brief 1:  Play-based Learning

This first session on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, features our new Pedagogy of Early Learning Practice Brief: Play-Based Learning, which explores how play is not a break from learning, but a primary pathway for learning across the PK–3 continuum. Engage in discussion on how play is both purposeful and rigorous—building strong academic foundations while preserving child agency, curiosity, and joy.

Participants will:

• Explore key research and insights

• Understand guided play as a high-leverage approach

• Examine how rigor is reflected through play and responsiveness

• Identify practical strategies for PK–3 settings
